Pre-Op Instructions

Thank you for making an appointment at our clinic!  For your pet’s safety, please follow these simple instructions:

Pre-Operative Instructions - All owners

On the day of your appointment:

·         Please arrive at 7:30 am. (Directions below.)

·         Plan to spend about 25 minutes with us in the morning.

·         Leave your pet in the car and line up at the green door marked “Admissions”

·         If your pet is current on their rabies vaccination please bring the rabies certificate or your pet’s medical record. The tag is not sufficient proof of vaccination.

·         If the cost of your pet’s surgery is covered by GRANT funding, you need to bring your photo ID and proof of eligibility for the grant. Example: food stamp card, letter of low income or current pay stubs.

·         If you have an unpaid balance, please be prepared to pay in the morning at admission. We accept most credit/debit cards but cash is preferred. NO CHECKS PLEASE.

Preoperative Instructions: DOGS

48 hours prior to surgery: 

·         DO NOT give any medications by mouth or topically 48 hours prior to surgery unless it has been approved by our doctor. This includes heartworm and flea prevention. 

·         Remove any flea/tick collars before your pet arrives for surgery.

The day before surgery: 

·         Do not bathe your pet for at least 48 hours before surgery.

·         Feed your dog half of their normal ration the evening before surgery prior to 7:00 pm.

·         Nothing to eat after 7:00 pm; water is ok. NO breakfast the morning of surgery.  It is very important to follow the fasting rules. If your pet eats after this time they may vomit while under anesthesia, which could lead to aspiration, pneumonia, and in rare instances asphyxiation and death (if your pet vomits undigested food prior to surgery then they may be declined for surgery).

Fasting exception for dogs less than 5 pounds: dogs weighing less than 5 lbs can have a few kibbles of food on the morning of surgery -NOT A FULL BREAKFAST. This is to prevent hypoglycemia.

Surgery Day

·         Your dog must arrive on a leash.

·         Pick up for dogs is 4:30 pm.

 PreOperative Instructions for CATS

48 hours prior to surgery: 

·         DO NOT give any medications by mouth or topically 48 hours prior to surgery unless it has been approved by our doctor. This includes heartworm and flea prevention. 

The day before surgery: 

·         Do not bathe your pet for at least 48 hours before surgery.  

·         No food after 7:00 pm. Take up all food sources before 7:00 pm and keep your cat inside. Water is ok.  It is very important to follow the fasting rules. If your pet eats after this time they may vomit while under anesthesia, which could lead to aspiration, pneumonia, and in rare instances, asphyxiation and death (if your pet vomits undigested food prior to surgery they may be declined for surgery).

Fasting exception for cats less than 4 months old:  kittens less than 4 months old can have a few kibbles of food on the morning of surgery - NOT A FULL BREAKFAST. This is to prevent hypoglycemia.

 Surgery Day

·         Remove any flea/tick collars.

·         Cats must arrive at the clinic in a hard plastic pet carrier lined with newspaper or a small towel. ONE CAT PER CARRIER.  Cats will not be accepted in wire cages/kennels. 

·         No collars, toys, or dishes in the carrier. 

      Pickup for cats is at 5:00pm.


HOW TO FIND US

We’re located behind the Alachua County Humane Society, 4205 NW 6th Street, next to Gainesville Tire. We’re 3 blocks north of 39th Ave, on the East side of the road. There is a sign out front that says: Alachua County Humane Society and No More Homeless Pets. The sign has a picture of a red dog, yellow cat and purple horse.

Please drive past the Humane Society Building and look to your left for Operation PetSnip's green door.

No pets are allowed in the admissions building; please leave them in the car while you finish your paperwork.
